Be on the alert for a roaring lion

1 Peter 5:8 tells us to be on the alert. He describes Satan as a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. Lions (as the devil does) plan their attack on victims. They sneak up on their prey usually using some form of cover. When stalking a buffalo herd, lions will follow for long distances before attacking. This could be in the hope of the buffalo herd panicking and scattering. When one of the herd starts to panic, the lions make their move. Hopefully the separated buffalo can get away, maybe to another herd of buffalo. Satan does the same thing in our churches. He is on the outside waiting patiently. Satan is hoping for a panic in the church and the people to scatter and leave. This is when he makes his move. There is strength in numbers and Satan knows this. He is subtle. He will make his move slowly and usually the victim is unaware of the devil's presence. It is the same with the buffalo. As long as they are together and aware of the lions presence, the lion will just wait.
