Superior view

My first view of Lake Superior was that of wonder. I wondered how such a large body of water could exist about 600 feet above sea level.  The view was driving into Duluth,Minnesota from the south on I-35. It wasn't until the drive back from Grand Marais that I realized just how big this lake is. I could see the opposite shore from Duluth. The trip back, of about 90 minutes, I never saw the opposite shore. Add to that the fact the Grand Marais is a great distance from the north end of the lake. I have seen oceans and they had never struck me this way. It reminded me of God. My first thought of God years ago, I thought of God with boundaries. Such as my view from Duluth. The more I learn about God, the better I understand His limitless characteristics. His mercy and grace are limitless. He is without boundaries. We mere humans try to understand Him and put boundaries on Him. The more I learn about God, the more I understand just how limitless he is. (The more I know, I learn there is more I don't know)

The Permanent Solution

 This time of year in Kansas, driving on the roads can be an adventure. We can have wet, icy or snow covered roads. These conditions can hide imperfections in the road. As I was driving yesterday, the roads for the most part were dry and clear. That doesn't mean that you don't pay attention to the details in the road. The road I was on was in good shape and the ride was pretty smooth. At the time I didn’t notice how smooth the ride was. But (yes there is a but), then I came to a 5 mile or so stretch that I took notice of the road. The road had been patched (or needed a patch) and you could feel and hear each one as you went over it. I even slowed to under the speed limit to make it less noticeable. This lead me to a thought. My first thought was why didn’t they just tear out the old road and replace it? Do you have time to pray or do you need to get to work?

This weekend I was asked this very question. Before I was asked the only thing running through my mind was that I needed to get to work or I would be late. After the question was asked many other thoughts raced through my mind- I should consistently be praying, I should acknowledge that God has given me the job that I'm thinking about, I should have done something different in regards to planning my time. All this before I hesitated in answering. I knew that if I said no I don't have time to pray would be the wrong answer, but if I said yes I would be late for work and be held responsible for that also. As I weighed both options (all this took place in less than 15 seconds), I decided I would take the time to pray for those men around me at the time. This doesn't mean I'm not responsible to my employer for being late. I'll face the consequences of that later. We have a set limit on time, the issue with this is no one knows the set amount we have except God Himself...

Tim Tebow standing Up in Super Bowl ad

I was at a meeting yesterday afternoon and was distracted by the television I was facing. At the bottom of the screen the text was asking about whether Tim Tebow was risking his reputation over an advertisement that was to run during the Super Bowl Ad. The ad focuses on his mother's decision not to have an abortion and instead give birth to him. The television I was facing was tuned to one of the many ESPN sports stations that are broadcast. I couldn't hear what they were talking about but the fact that the text kept popping up made me wonder how far we have come as a nation. It was in bold print on the bottom of the screen. Advertising has become so anti-family that many ads are even much worse than the lousy shows that are broadcast today. This man stands up for the least of us and yet he is criticized for his views.
